Scandinavian-Style: Floating Sauna
If you are traveling to the Nordic countries, a sauna will be present in some part of your experience. Saunas are present everywhere, but Finland took it as a "Finish Tradition" even tho it's present in every Nordic country, today, Finland is a nation of 5.3 million people and 3.3 million saunas, found in homes, offices, factories, sports centres, hotels, ships and deep below the ground in mines. This is why they as know by "sauna country" just because they have sauna everywhere.
Sweden is not behind, as it's comum to have saunas at home, at the gym and many other places. But today I invite to you to a very unique way to enjoy sauna, floating in the famous lake Mälaren in Stockholm.
Yes, you are reading right. It's a floating sauna, where you can have a party or just relax with your friends. The sauna it's up to 12 people, perfect for birthday parties, bachelor or just to have a different experience with your friends (or your partner - you choose!)
So we joined the Bastuflotte (how is it called in Swedish) at Stocksund pier, it took us around 20 minutes from Stockholm Central Station. You can take the "roslagsbanan" from Tekniska Högskolan and go to Stocksund Station and then walk no nome than 10 minutes, or just jump off at Danderyds Sjukhus metro station (red line) and walk for aprox 15 minutes. Both options is very close!
I must say, even living in Sweden for almost two years and exploring many saunas this was a very cool experience to try. It's the perfect combo, you warm up yourself on a hot sauna and then jump in the cold water.
Bastuflotten Relaxa had everything we needed as towels, glasses, place to charge your phone, speakers and place to put your drinks and keep it cold. By the way they had a cool box where you could "leave" your phone, as it says: "leave your phone here and go socialize" - just perfect to make you relax!
In a short interview with Kevin, who works for many years with the Bastuflotten Relaxa I had to make the most important question about sauna in Sweden: Is that true people do sauna naked?
Then Kevin confirmed everything I knew: "Yes! All the time, and why not? You are free to do whatever you want, and why have a wet clothes on you, if it's a time to relax?"
I learned many thing while living in Sweden, but this is the most important one: "You should be free to do whatever you want. And a body it's just a body, there is no tabu about it. Everybody has a body and that's it" Simple like this.
By Stocksund pier they have a small restaurant with outdoor tables, if you want to grab a drink before or later your trip. Highly recommend, we had an ice cream after our journey and it's was the perfect way to end the day.
It's also important to say the whole crew of Bastuflotten was very kind, they gave us a little introduction before, saying everything was there to make our trip great, we were free to use everything, they gave some orientations about jumping and about cleaning. Everything was extremely clean at the sauna and outdoor. And after our trip I could see they were cleaning everything for real, like every single part of the place. So you can enjoy it without be worry for nothing, just have fun!
Bastuflotte Relaxa (funny name, Relaxa in Portuguese it means relax!)
